You pose some helpful thoughts for me. Being authentic, saying no (“my bandwidth can only handle so much”) definitely require mindfulness and emotional strength (for me) as I have always been the fixer and helper.. and at 70 yrs old I have finally (finally??!!) realized that it is okay to let others take control, make their own mistakes etc. And, your comments and observations on Slow Living: I have found that folks who have experienced a severe health experience to seek a “simpler” life… it is that “reality check” attributed to life lessons on what is important to ones existence..
And yes, I believe Jesus and Buddha are excellent role models when seeking ones version of True Self.
As a newly retired Canadian living in Florida for a few months- i want you to know i look at you as one of my “peeps”. Your encouragement to have the courage of awareness and embrace slow living, has led me to step out of the divisiveness here and spend more time alone with my dog, Happy. This slowing down time lead me to the frustration that the Florida golf and country club does feed my soul. Ah, poor me. But being in the muck, started whispering to me to do something that felt good to do. Two weeks ago I started as a volunteer to teach english to Guatemalans once a week - mostly young, respectful, caring men who want to “ learn English for my work”. There is no funding for this program and so I am gratefully challenged to find activities that will be a value and connect through smiles, music and laughter. Going to that class makes my day. So do you. Those words of the song reverberate in my mind. Make my day. Make my day.
