Dear Reader
I hope this finds you well in these interesting times. I’m excited to share a video with you today, as some of you expressed that you’d like to hear me read my own poetry some more. After last week’s column reflecting on truer ownership of my body of writings and books, I thought I’d start reading to you some more. I also promised I’d show you some more of my brother Chris’ art, so we do that too. This poem is called ‘Kabul’ and is about travelling with my father and family in 1970 and the impressions left in my cells encountering so much life and variety at such a young age.
Note:
We also get a bit irreverent regarding the 1984ishness of these times, with a little film insert reminding us that one day, someone can be one thing, and the next day, something else, depending on the politics of the time.
Blessings to you
John
Note: The images alongside the poem section in this video are by Robert and Sabrina Michaud from their book ‘Afghanistan’ which, amazingly, is from the same year as our travels.
Thanks so much John for sharing your gorgeous poem - so rich. And the photos - just as stunning. What a gift this spring morning to savour.
Good stuff mate, much enjoyed
Luv ya
